Kiwanis Club of Jacksonville gives back to children in our community in many different ways. This page will allow you to keep up to date with how the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Jacksonville is giving back to our community.
We work with Fort Caroline Elementary as sponsor and presentor of the BUGs program. The children individually set the bar during the first nine weeks of the school year. For the second through fourth nine weeks the children have the opportunity to bring their grades up. If the child brings up one or more grade during a nine week grading period they are invited to the BUGs celebration where they receive an personalized awards certificate, as well as BUGs pins and other recognition items. They are served pizza and juice. The parents are encouraged to attend also. For those who set the bar high with their grade average and stand out through their personal assistance to other classmates, the teachers have the option to award 1 Super BUGs each of the nine weeks. At the final ceremony in late May, all students who have been awarded BUGs return for a special ceremony where over 40 brand new bicycles are awarded to the BUGs recipients.
Our Aktion Club is hosted at Pine Castle. Pine Castle's mission is to enrich the lives of people with developmental and acquired disabilities by providing opportunities to learn, work, and live in our community. Kiwanis works with Pine Castle to provide an activity each month. The activity can range from videos to a craft to an activity in the gym. Kiwanis Club of Downtown Jacksonville also hosts a Christmas party each year which always brings lots of smiles!
Key Club is an international student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to perform service, build character and develop leadership. The Downtown Kiwanis Club currently sponsors a Key Club at Oakleaf HS in Orange Park.
